Here’s a nice outline of some of Kelly Starret’s techniques for un-doing the deleterious effects of a sedentary lifestyle on athletic performance. Normalizing soft tissue, improving range of motion, and correcting imbalances is the absolute best way to prevent injury and promote optimal athletic output. Unless you’re 12-years-old or some kind of gymnast, you probably need to give this stuff a hard look. Mobility work, compression therapy, myofascial release, and other recovery techniques MUST be a part of any serious heavy athletics program.
