Headed to Van Alstyn tomorrow.
Hopefully we won’t make the same mistakes as Rob.
A few upcoming events need to be on your radar.
First we’ve got the Copperhead Open this Saturday in Van Alstyne, TX. Ryan and I are both competing as open 105 kg lifters. One of our best youth lifters, Eli Young, is also making the trip. The start list looks salty. Cash prizes for Sinclair winners. This should be a good one.
If you’re not already watching the Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Slovakia this week, you should be. There’ve been some spectacular, record-shattering performances already and the heavy hitters are just getting started. Today the 17-year-old Iraqi boy at 69 kgs totaled an Earth-crushing 311 kgs via a 143 kg snatch and a 168 kg cnj – both new WRs. Over double body weight snatch at the age of 17? Yeah, ok . . . I need to find a new sport.
Of note, Oklahoma’s own Jackie Beed is lifting this Saturday. You can catch her on the live stream at some un-godly hour (5 a.m. by my calculations) here.
